Discussion
The Internet started in 1969. The U.S. Department of Defence commissioned a network of four computers called ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency network) to conduct research into networking. For most of its existence, the Internet was used primarily for research, academic and military activities.

With the arrival of the World Wide Web in 1993 the world of commerce became interested in the Internet's potential.

Today the Internet is made up of  tens of millions of computers with over 300,000,000 users worldwide.
